Philosophies for tracking money
Two extremes for managing funding source allocations, funding sources, and funds.
The one-to-one philosophy
Money from a given external source that has a spending deadline, goes into its own funding source.
A fund only receives money from 1 funding source (no multiple funding-source inheritance).
Typically, this means a new set of funding sources each year.
The funding source is the “root” of the money, not the individual credits into the funding source
-
The multiverse philosophy
Money with different spending deadlines may be part of the same funding source
Funds receive money from multiple funding sources
The funding source credit is the “root” of all money and tracks the spending deadline
